On 17th December 2006 Burngreave Safer Neighbourhood Team concluded an operation targetting criminal gangs operating in Burngreave and Pitsmoor. Operation Gulliver was a high profile police operation which targeted criminal gangs in the locality who were believed to be involved in the trafficking of class A drugs such as heroin and crack cocaine and also the illegal use of firearms. The Police team carried out stop searches in the street, executed search warrants, stopped suspicious vehicles and increased patrol activity in trouble hotspots such as the Scott Road and Firshill Road area.

In all 12 drugs warrants were executed, 18 house searches and 96 arrests were made.

Items seized included a loaded 9mm handgun, an imitation firearm, shotgun cartridges, 11 knives, two samurai swords, stun gun and pepper spray.

Furthermore there were seizures of heroin and crack cocaine worth £6,100 street value and in total £21,900 cash was seized as the proceeds of crime.

This was a public safety exercise aimed at reducing the amount of Class A drugs being trafficked through Burngreave and Pitsmoor.

The aim of the operation was to provide public reassurance, prevent confrontation between groups in the area and hinder the supply of Class A drugs. From the results, we have achieved this.
