Bookstart and Family Learning

The project aims to deliver free book packs and provide advice on book sharing for families with young children aged 5 and under.

It also provides a wide range of family learning courses and events based at Burbgreave Library, all designed to encourage literacy and book sharing with the under 5s.

The project was able to provide dual language children's books via the library for a family with young children who have English as a second language. The children, aged between 1 and 5 enjoyed the stories, and the mum reported that she used the books to help her with her English. The family have now become regular library users.

Aproximately 8 families are involved with the regular “Baby Time” session, and 10 families on the “Storysacks” course.

Around 30 Bookstart packs have been delivered to local families via Health Visitors' clinics each month.

The project has 1 project worker with line management.
