Successes

Ahmed Omar arrived from Somalia having trained and worked as an electrical engineer for over twenty years, and settled in Burngreave. But despite trying to find work in his own field, it was not to be.

In order to maintain certain skills within the electronics field, he signed up for a computer networking course through Jobcenter Plus and carried out the training at TriTec Computer Training in Sheffield.

After signing up with the Apprenticeships for All programme, Ahmed was placed with a local electronics firm and is now doing well.

Following identification of a suitable course by his employer, Ahmed will take part in a short intensive training course which will allow his qualifications and skills from Somalia to be updated and converted to accomodate the current electrical regulations. This will allow Ahmed to use his skills more effectively in the workplace.

By making available funds to support Ahmed in the workplace, the employer was able to to give him the opportunity to use his skills, develop in line with UK regulations and progress within his field of expertise.

Ahmed is now working for Practical Control in Brightside. The company manufactures and installs high profile electrical panel systems throughout the country.
