Burngreave MEND ( Mind, Exercise, Nutrition - Do it! ) Programme

We have received funding to run the MEND programme in Burngreave and the first programme begins at Verdon Recreation Centre on Monday 15th October.

It is being run by Active Burngreave, managed by Di Hardiman, and the sessions led by Suduf Khan and Hayley Parsisson.

It's a 10-week programme, two sessions a week, aimed at 7-13 year-old young people who are overweight or obese and their parent/carer.

MEND stands for “Mind, Exercise, Nutrition – Do it!” and has an emphasis on practical and fun learning. It is a national programme (recently featured on Newsnight and Radio Five Live) with a very high retention rate on programmes that have been run elsewhere. We have the opportunity to run several of these programmes in Burngreave over the next two years, as well as building follow-up programmes and general “Obesity Awareness”

It is free and fun! It's is all about encouraging changes in lifestyle to promote a healthier life, less risk of ill health etc. Parents have to commit to attending for 10 weeks as well which is an important part of the programme.

Further information can be obtained from Ash on 2491626.
