Reporting a Crime

How do you report a crime to us or tell us about an incident you may have witnessed?

There are a number of ways that you can report a crime to us. One of the easiest methods is by telephone;

  • If you or someone has an emergency then you should dial '999'. An emergency might be where someone, possibly including yourself might be at risk of injury or harm. Another type of emergency would be where you see a crime taking place such as a theft or robbery.

  • If you are in a situation where you feel you need the police but the matter does not need the police to be there straight away. For example, reporting a crime which has happened some time ago, or passing some information about an incident or crime, then you are encouraged to dial 0114 2202020.

  • When you dial either of these numbers, the call handler will make a decision as to how to handle your call and direct the right people to deal with your problem.

  • As a safer neighbourhood team we want to offer you a direct line to our office. It's important that the officers who work your area are available to you. If you have an issue which is not necessarily an emergency, maybe a long standing problem regarding anti social behaviour or you want to pass on some information then dial 0114 2964489 or 2964437. These numbers are not monitored 24 hours a day, however there is a voicemail facility which is checked regularly. • Another alternative is to call CRIMESTOPPERS on 0800 555 111. This number is a free number which you can use to pass information to the police, confidentially. You could receive payment for the information you pass on.

  • Your Safer Neighbourhood Team is based at Attercliffe Police Station, Attercliffe Common, Sheffield S9
