September 2006 Messenger

Here's some extra things we couldn't fit in the September issue…

New Youth Work Jobs

Sheffield Future's is now recruiting Youth Workers for the New Deal funded Streetworx project. They need “motivated, experienced part-time detached youth workers and a full time assistant youth worker to form a new flexible team, working on the streets of Burngreave to engage young people and provide alternative positive activities, information and support.”

The closing date is Friday 8th September.

Your life on the radio

Walking Voices

Did you grow up in another country before moving to England?

Do you live in Burngreave, Pitsmoor, Fir Vale or Firth Park?

Would you like to take part in a BBC Radio Sheffield programme?

Are you interesting in helping with research about living in cities with Sheffield University?

Sheffield University are making a radio programme about living in Sheffield, not the famous bits but the corner shops, the playgrounds, the bus stops and the school gates. We need people from different home countries who are happy to share their stories: what kind of places they go, and what is important to them.

Could you be one of our ‘voices’, making recordings over the course of three months to introduce your neighbourhood, whether on a Monday morning, Saturday afternoon or a special trip out? How does it compare with where you used to live? You do not need any special skills, we will give training, and eventually you will hear your reporting over the radio. The reports will also contribute to research on how people view their neighbourhoods by the Department of Landscape at Sheffield University.

Trip to Skegness

This year’s trip to the seaside funded by New Deal proved a great success with some 350 residents setting off early one Saturday morning in July for Skegness.

After a day on the beach, it all proved very tiring for one young girl and her brother!
